Hospitals & Doctor's Offices Part 2

I should have mentioned in the previous post that I am thankful that things turned out the way they did surrounding Dylan's birth. Mostly I'm thankful for God's perfect timing regarding his birth, and having me at the hospital and that I was not at home for several hours having contractions before heading to the hospital knowing that Dylan was in distress each time I had a contraction.

So Monday morning we went to the pediatricians office. I was so encouraged when I left there because Dylan had gained 2 oz since we left the hospital, and having gone through jaundice/bilirubin levels with Emma I thought this was a good sign, I was wrong. An hour later I got a call that Dylan's level was over 20 and that I needed to immediately go to the hospital so they could test his levels again before admitting us. So I called Kevin who had taken Emma to the park and they rushed home to get us to the hospital. We were admitted that afternoon and for the next 18 hours Dylan got to sunbathe under these lights.

They worked, and by Tuesday afternoon we were able to go home. As much as a pain as it was to have to go back to the hospital it wasn't nearly as bad as having to the home care that we did with Emma. Because his levels had gone down so much at the hospital we were given the ok to come back to the pediatrician's on Thursday instead of going back on Wed. His level had gone up slightly so we had to go back again on Friday and they had gone back down enough that we now don't have to go back till his 2 week checkup. I'm glad we don't have to go back anymore, being at a hospital/doctor's office this time of year with all the flu issues going around isn't really where I want to be with a newborn.

I know, not the most exciting post, but at least I now have somewhere to go back and remember what Dylan's first two weeks were like.

Hospitals and Doctor's Office

If you asked me where I've spent most of my time the past two weeks that would be my answer. We'll start with Dylan's birth. I was scheduled to be induced on Oct 27th so the date of his arrival didn't come as a surprise to me, but the events leading up to how he came into this world did. I'll try to make this brief. We arrived at the hospital around 5:45am as I was scheduled to be induced at 6:30am and they like you to arrive early. Around 6am we were brought into a delivery room, which coincidentally was the same exact room where Emma was born. I changed into the lovely hospital gown and got prepped for my IV. At first, the only fluids going into my IV was the saline (or whatever is in those bags). And in case you didn't know it was possible to pass out from that it is, b/c it happened to me. About 20 minutes later I started to feel real light headed and knew what was about to happen. I mentioned something to the nurse and they quickly got me on oxygen. I felt like I should be on a football field not in a hospital bed with my oxygen mask on. Not too much after that Dylan's heart rate started to drop from 130 to between 50-60, and we went from 2 nurses in my room to at least 6 trying to get me to move from one side to the other and even on my hands and knees to get his heart rate back up. I got a shot of some med to stop whatever contractions I was having on my own. and after a while it did get back to normal and once my doctor arrived she concluded that it was just a reaction to my almost passing out, and not that the cord was wrapped around him somewhere. So she decided to break my water, start me on pitocin (to start contractions), and I was able to get an epidural and get the labor process started. But once I started to have stronger contractions Dylan kept decelling (his heart rate dropped after each contraction), not as low as it had done earlier, but enough for it to be a concern. They stopped to pitocin to see how he would react to my contractions without being on pitocin and the same thing kept happening. They weren't sure why it kept happening, but regardless of why my doctor's recommendation was that in Dylan's best interest it would be best to go forward with an immediate c-section which they did and Dylan was born at 10:51am.

Because of the c-section I had to stay in the hospital till Friday. It was a litle boring at times with the no visitor rule, but I did get to rest more than I did when Emma was born.

Monday morning brought us to the pediatricians office for his initial appt. Compared to Emma at that age, I thought his skin coloring didn't look nearly as bad for being jaundice, but I was wrong. To be continued...

Dylan Scott Brault

On Tuesday October 27th we welcomed Dylan Scott Brault into the world. He was born at 10:51am, and weighs 7 lbs 9oz and is 20 1/4 inches long. Right now he has dark brown hair and blue eyes. Even though I was scheduled to be induced Tuesday morning Dylan's birth didn't quite go as we had planned. I know most of you really just want to see pictures of Dylan so I will blog about the events of Dylan's birth later. Enjoy!

Pumpkins

Since the weather was decent yesterday and we knew that it would be our last outing as a family of 3 (I'm being induced tomorrow morning) we decided to take Emma to a pumpkin patch yesterday. There were so many pumpkins to choose from. I told Emma she could pick a mini pumpkin out for her and Dylan, she had a hard time deciding which ones were the best.

There were also tunnels for the kids to climb through, fortunately for Emma she wasn't too tall so she could walk right through them.

We came home with two mini pumpkins and a pumpkin to carve,

and attempted again to get a picture of Emma smiling with the pumpkins. Here's the end result:

Bedtime Stories

Tonight I sat on Emma's rocking chair to read her some books before bedtime. She promptly pointed to the floor and said "sit there" (which she says often) so she could sit in the rocking chair all by her self. Who knew she'd be so bossy and independent before the age of 2. So now I have to read the books upside down while she sits and turns the pages.

Waiting in the car

I managed to take this video on my phone while Emma and I were waiting in the car while Kevin picked up dinner for us.
